National Lampoon Goes Open Source

JamboWorks Launches New Open Source Online Service for National Lampoon

JamboWorks has launched JamboZine, the revolutionary hosted platform for the twice Webby-nominated Designed for companies who want non-technical writers and editorial staff to be given access to an easy-to-use graphical interface, the JamboZine interface allows for exacting control over the look and feel of not only the publication but of individual content items; and also provides facilities for quickly implementing additional functionality. The new National Lampoon Humor Network is a gateway to 27 comedy sites under the National Lampoon umbrella so with current updates quickly and easily posted the visitor experience will be more satisfying and more frequent.

JamboWorks developed the back end of the website, based on the cutting edge, customized Joomla! content management system (CMS). The CMS allows users to navigate throughout in a much more intuitive way. In addition, JamboWorks has developed a new publishing tool, JamboZine which, using the award-winning Joomla! Platform, allows's writers to update the site without the need of technical assistance.

"For the first time, magazine content can be updated immediately and easily," says Mitch Pirtle, CEO of JamboWorks. "The days of paying high contractor fees or employing expensive technical staff to make minor updates are over. Utilizing the award-winning Joomla! Platform, JamboZine has advanced features, including a powerful and innovative templating engine that offers flexibility and pixel-perfect formatting of content, a hierarchical/nested design that allows articles to be organized by categories (or departments) and issues much like print publications, and a pluggable architecture that makes it easy to add additional functionality such as comments, ratings, what's popular/related and more. Since JamboZine is a hosted service, clients are not required to maintain their own webservers or hosting environment.

One of the first movers in the Internet space for comedy, originally launched in 1999. They have had 70 million unique visitors to the site during that time-more people than voted for Taylor Hicks for American Idol OR for George Bush for president in the last election. Nominated for the Webby Award® for Best Humor Site 2001 and 2005,'s feature and animation pieces commenting on the 9/11 disaster were honored and edified by entry into the Smithsonian Institute.'s 2004 parody of considered one most successful internet parodies in history.
