Which Games Will Generate the Most Buzz at E3 2013: GameTrailers, Spike TV and Mass Relevance Introduce GDEX - The Social Score for Gaming

New Fan-Powered Platform Uses Social Media Mentions to Rank Buzz for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii-U and Games on Display at E3 2013, and Is Leveraged On-Air During Spike's Coverage of the Conference

LOS ANGELES, CA and AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 06/11/13 -- Hundreds of games will battle for buzz at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, but which ones will break through the clutter and become the talk of the Internet? Will the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One win the hearts and minds of gamers at E3? Today,, a division of Viacom Entertainment Group, and Mass Relevance introduce GDEX, an index that answers these questions with a new proprietary scoring algorithm derived entirely from consumer commentary on the leading social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Google+.

GDEX updates hourly, scanning, aggregating and analyzing over 450 million social media comments a day to determine what fans are naturally saying about games. Then this data is put in context by calculating a real-time "GDEX score" out of 100. The score is determined by the volume, sentiment, social reach and momentum of conversations about each game. This formula allows GDEX to quickly compare major console platforms, and determine which system has "won" the public's attention and admiration at any point.

"GDEX is a revolutionary new way to uncover what consumers at home are saying about all the major games and platforms at E3. We are giving fans a voice and an opportunity to shape the perception of what's hot at E3," said Geoff Keighley, Executive in Charge, Publisher Relations, Viacom Media Networks. "In partnership with Mass Relevance, we've built an algorithm that organizes real-time social conversations into an index that is relevant to gamers, journalists, retailers and brands alike. Elements such as momentum and social reach shape the score, providing an accurate, real-time view of consumers' perceptions of games and consoles."

"We are proud to partner with GameTrailers to allow gamers, for the first time ever, to understand which platform and games matter most by tapping into what people are saying across social channels in real-time," said Sam Decker, CEO of Mass Relevance. "The Mass Relevance platform captures all of the social conversations taking place across every social channel, and then determines a real-time score based on critical factors like volume, sentiment, momentum, social reach and influencer buzz. The GDEX score goes way beyond reviews or review aggregators to deliver new value for gamers -- as well as publishers and manufacturers who want to understand where they rank."

Launching today at, the interface allows consumers, game developers, retailers, analysts and the press to track games and consoles in real-time and evaluate how scores evolve over time. An hourly leaderboard ranks the scores of more than 75 games on display at E3, and pits the three major consoles head to head -- the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Wii-U. Users can see real-time insights on the conversation around each game, historical data on how scores have changed over time, the number of daily social mentions, and the most re-Tweeted comments from Twitter.

As the official and exclusive broadcaster of E3 2013, Spike TV will use the GDEX platform as part of its on-air coverage to track the top-trending games at E3. The network will analyze which game console is a favorite among fans at home during its live coverage on television, the web, and live on Xbox Live and iOS platforms.

Spike's E3 on-air expert team include "GTTV" hosts Geoff Keighley, Amanda Mackay, Daniel Kayser and Katie Linendoll, host of the network's tech-centric show, "All Access Weekly."

The "E3 All Access Live" team will broadcast from its own E3 studio overlooking the Los Angeles Convention Center. Its coverage will include the industry's top press conference events, breaking gaming news and announcements, never-before-seen trailers and gameplay footage, exclusive interviews with the biggest names in gaming and entertainment and much more. Gil Colon, Kevin Kay, Geoff Keighley, Jaimee Kosanke and Jon Slusser serve as Executive Producers for "Spike Presents 2012 E3 All Access Live."
