KontrolFreek Names Finalists in Clash of Commentators Contest

Call it gaming’s version of American Idol, The Voice or Iron Chef. KontrolFreek, the leading developer of video gaming accessories, is hosting Clash of the Commentators to find the next great YouTube video game commentator.

KontrolFreek and partners Elgato Gaming, Turtle Beach and Yeousch have announced the contest’s final eight contestants and voting is underway.

After receiving more than 300 entries, a panel of celebrity judges, including YouTube commentators TmarTn, IIJERiiCHOII, OpTicMiDNiTe and ChaosXSilencer, named eight finalists. The “Great Eight” are: NC ShowTyme, EposVox, MARCOL1NTH, Sik Sensei, wak4863, F1RST_BLUD, AaronFPS and D.R. James.

“We’ve seen a great deal of talent in the competition already,” said Ashish Mistry, President and CEO of KontrolFreek. “We’re excited to see what the next generation of great YouTube commentators has to offer and help them gain exposure as well.”

In recent years, a handful of gaming commentators have seen their reputations rise to celebrity status and have made careers out of their online personas. KontrolFreek, which has worked closely with some of the biggest names including TmarTn, hopes the contest will give the next commentator a career break.

“YouTube is so oversaturated now that it’s really tough to catch a break. This contest offers an amazing opportunity for small YouTubers to make their mark and grow their channels,” says TmarTn, who has been doing commentaries since 2010, and has more than 1 million subscribers.

KontrolFreek generates roughly one-third of its revenue from YouTube and is always looking for new ways to engage with the audience there. “KontrolFreek has benefitted from partnering with YouTube gaming personalities, and Clash of the Commentators is a great way for us to give back to the community,” Mistry said.

The final eight will be narrowed again by online public voting through a head-to-head, bracket-style competition until two finalists remain standing. Those two will be flown to Atlanta by KontrolFreek for a weekend of live challenges before the winner is named August 28.

The Next Great Gaming Commentator will receive a one-of-a-kind WWF-style championship belt, a YouTube partnership contract offer from Yeousch, a personal coaching session from one of the celebrity judges and a cash prize.
